A Polynomial-Time Algorithm for Finding a Minimal Conflicting Set Containing a Given Row

چکیده
A binary matrix has the Consecutive Ones Property (C1P) if there exists a permutation of its columns (i.e. a sequence of column swappings) such that in the resulting matrix the 1s are consecutive in every row. A Minimal Conflicting Set (MCS) of rows is a set of rows R that does not have the C1P, but such that any proper subset of R has the C1P. In [5], Chauve et al. gave a O(∆m(n+m+ e)) time algorithm to decide if a row of a m × n binary matrix with at most ∆ 1s per row belongs to at least one MCS of rows. Answering a question raised in [2], [5] and [25], we present the first polynomial-time algorithm to decide if a row of a m× n binary matrix belongs to at least one MCS of rows.

Joint mixability of some integer matrices
We study the problem of permuting each column of a given matrix to achieve minimum maximal row sum or maximum minimal row sum, a problem of interest in probability theory and quantitative finance where quantiles of a random variable expressed as the sum of several random variables with unknown dependence structure are estimated. If the minimum maximal row sum is equal to the maximum minimal row...
متن کاملMinimal Conflicting Sets for the Consecutive Ones Property in Ancestral Genome Reconstruction
A binary matrix has the Consecutive Ones Property (C1P) if its columns can be ordered in such a way that all 1's on each row are consecutive. A Minimal Conflicting Set is a set of rows that does not have the C1P, but every proper subset has the C1P. Such submatrices have been considered in comparative genomics applications, but very little is known about their combinatorial structure and effici...
متن کاملA Polynomial Time Algorithm for Finding Finite Unions of Tree Pattern Languages
A tree pattern is a structured pattern known as a term in formal logic, and a tree pattern language is the set of trees which are the ground instances of a tree pattern. In this paper, we deal with the class of tree languages whose language is de ned as a union of at most k tree pattern languages, where k is an arbitrary xed positive number. In particular, we present a polynomial time algorithm...
متن کاملModels and algorithms for metabolic networks: elementary modes and precursor sets
In this PhD, we present some algorithms and complexity results for two general problems that arise in the analysis of a metabolic network: the search for elementary modes of a network and the search for minimal precursors sets. Elementary modes is a common tool in the study of the cellular characteristic of a metabolic network. An elementary mode can be seen as a minimal set of reactions that c...
متن کاملDetermination of a Matrix Function in the Form of f(A)=g(q(A)) Where g(x) Is a Transcendental Function and q(x) Is a Polynomial Function of Large Degree Using the Minimal Polynomial
Matrix functions are used in many areas of linear algebra and arise in numerical applications in science and engineering. In this paper, we introduce an effective approach for determining matrix function f(A)=g(q(A)) of a square matrix A, where q is a polynomial function from a degree of m and also function g can be a transcendental function. Computing a matrix function f(A) will be time- consu...
